Using play, do, & go to talk about leisure activities

 

Language Notebooks for Adult Students

 

  1. Buy a new note tablet ( called a notebook in the US) that will be used only for English study. This will be your Language Notebook .
     
  2. Create one 10-page section in this notebook for each unit in the textbook. For Let's Talk - 2 the sections will be:
     
    • Unit 1 Getting to know you (What kind of person are you? / Breaking the ice)
    • Unit 2 Getting to know more about you (Making a good impression / Getting personal)
    • Unit 3 Food and Cooking (How do you cook that? / Going out to eat)
    • Unit 4 Relationships (Families / Friends)
    • Unit 5 Earning a living (Nine to five / The movie industry)
    • Unit 6 Leisure time (What do you enjoy doing? / If I had more time ... )
    • Unit 7 Games & sports (Playing and watching sports / How about a game?)
    • Unit 8 Travel and transportation (Going places / On the road)
    • Unit 9 Vacation time (What's in like there? / Before you go ...)
    • Unit 10 Modern inventions (Useful things / Great ideas?)
    • Unit 11 The environment (Threats to our environment / Saving the environment)
    • Unit 12 News and current events (In the news / Keep up to date!)
    • Unit 13 Living in the city (City life / Safety and crime)
    • Unit 14 Arts and entertainmnet (Yes, but is it art? / I really enjoyed it!)
    • Unit 15 In the past (Times have changed ... / A sense of history)
    • Unit 16 Comedy and humor (What a scream! / A sense of humor)

     
  3. Each section should have:
     
    • 2 pages of Verb + Noun Combinations
    • 2 pages of Verbs with do, have, go, make, take, and get
    • 2 pages of Adjective + Noun combinations
    • 1 page of Adverb + Adjective Combinations
    • 1 page of Phrasal Verbs
    • 1 page of Prepositional Phrases
    • 1 page of Idioms / My Phrases

     
  4. Don't feel rushed to fill each section right away. This notebook is a long-term language project. You should use it and keep adding to it as long as it is helping you.

Word Surfing Vocabulary Activity (http://www.wordsurfing.co.uk/9511.html) - this is a long-term thing, but it gives good results. I encourage all my students to start one of these. I use one to learn Korean, so I can tell you about it if you like - just ask.
